The results of benchmark tests of the Apple M2 Max system have appeared on the web, which has not yet been officially presented. There are also some details about its technical specifications.

The results in question were found in the Geekbench 5 test results database. They were first published on Twitter by a user nicknamed ShrimpApplePro, who is known for sharing reports on future Apple devices. It is worth adding, however, that the entry is still available in the Geekbench 5 database and, at least at first glance, there is no reason to question its credibility.

The testing platform for the M2 Max chip is a mysterious computer whose ID is “Mac14.6”. Other Mac models are marked in a similar way – the identifier of the 13-inch MacBook Pro from 2022 is “Mac14.7”.

The machine on which the 12-core M2 Max system was tested has 96 GB of RAM and macOS Ventura version 13.2, which has not yet entered the development testing phase.

Performance Apple M2 Max

In the single-core test, the M2 Max chip scored 1853 points, and in the multi-core test the score was 13855 points. For comparison, the M1 Max chip in Mac Studio scored 1755 and 12333 points, respectively. This means that the increase in performance will not be significant. The clock speed of the new system is 3.54 GHz.

It is worth noting that the top processors of the competition are definitely in a different league. The Intel Core i9-13900K scores 2226 and 24269 points, while the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X scores 2192 and 22933 points. It is likely, however, that the official average results achieved by the M2 Max will be slightly better than those presented above, but they will certainly not match the competition. This may be due to the fact that both the hardware and software used are in the testing phase, so the whole thing may not be optimized yet.

M2 Max – what computers?

It is most likely that the M2 Pro and Max series chips will be used in the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBooks, as well as in the next generation Mac Studio. The first two are to appear at the beginning of the year, and the third of these a little later.
