Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to the UN General Assembly

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in his speech before the UN General Assembly said that a crime had been committed against his people and that he therefore demanded a just punishment for it. He informed that Ukraine will soon submit to the United Nations a proposal to create a special tribunal to judge Russia.

– Against Ukraine a crime has been committed and we demand a just punishment. We demand a penalty for the attempted theft of our land, for the murder of thousands of people, for the crimes and humiliation of women and men – said the President of Ukraine on Wednesday Volodymyr Zelensky in a virtual speech before the General Assembly The United Nations.

Zelensky on the “five-point formula for peace”

Volodymyr Zelensky presented a five-point “formula for peace”, which, in his opinion, would bring peace in Ukraine and scare future aggressors away from similar actions. As he stated, its first and most important point is the punishment for the crime. He announced that Ukraine would submit to the UN a proposal to create a special tribunal to judge Russian crimes and award damages to Ukraine.

He added that the aggressor should be deprived of the right to vote in the United Nations, including the right of veto in the Security Council, and “states that care about peace” should forbid the Russians to rest on their territory. He also called for all states to recognize Russia as a country that supports terrorism, and to impose a cap on the price of Russian oil so that it is no longer used as a weapon.

The remaining points presented by Zelenskiy include protection of life, restoration of security (including food security) and territorial integrity, security guarantees and determination to defend themselves. If his plan is implemented, he said, the necessary reform of the UN system would be achieved at the same time. He also called for the extension of the permanent composition of the UN Security Council to include, for example, Brazil, India, Turkey and Ukraine.

Zelensky rejects the idea of a temporary halt to fighting

Zelenskiy also rejected the idea of a temporary halt to fighting, arguing that Russia would use the pause to wait out the winter and prepare a military mobilization and another offensive against Ukraine. He added that considering the crimes of, inter alia, in occupied Izium and Bucza, it cannot allow the extension of the occupation of Ukrainian territories.

– How can we let the Russian army stay on Ukrainian soil, knowing that they are committing such mass murders everywhere? – argued the president of Ukraine. He also argued that “there is only one entity in the world” that does not want peace, and that is the Russian Federation.

Zelenskiy: Russia talks about peace talks and at the same time announces mobilization

– You probably heard the Russians pretending that they are ready for peace talks. They talk about the talks and at the same time announce military mobilization and pseudo-referenda in the occupied territories of Ukraine, Zelenskiy said. “Russia wants war, but it will not be able to stop the course of history,” he added.

The Ukrainian leader thanked the countries who voted to speak virtually in the Assembly, noting that the world was on the side of Ukraine. – Only seven countries voted against: Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Eritrea, Nicaragua, Russia and Syria. Seven, who were afraid of this video speech – said Zelenski.
