Vladimir Putin meets Xi Jinping. White House: Putin coaxes Beijing

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stated that Vladimir Putin is heavily burdened with what is happening in Ukraine, and therefore he is trying to plead with Beijing. Thus, he commented on the meeting of Russian and Chinese leaders in Samarkand. He also announced the sending of another tranche of military aid to Ukraine.

Spokesman for the National Security Council USA John Kirby in an interview with CNN stated that “it is important for the Kremlin to hold this meeting, because Mr Putin is heavily burdened in Ukraine“His army is not doing well and it is no wonder that the Kremlin wants to cheer up Beijing over what is happening there,” he added, when asked about the Thursday meeting of the presidents of both countries during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Samarkand in Uzbekistan.

As he added, however, it is not clear whether Xi Jinping intends to help materially Russia.

– China has to make a choice. It is clear that they chose not to condemn this war. But importantly, we do not see them violating sanctions or providing direct material aid to Putin in any other way, Kirby said.

The official announced that in the near future the US will announce another armaments package for Ukraine, containing many of the systems previously provided by America, including HIMARS. However, according to CNN, Washington continues to refuse to supply the long-range ATACMS missiles that Kyiv is bidding for. According to CNN, the White House is convinced that the current strategy is working and does not want to risk potentially escalating actions at the moment.
