UOL: Ancelotti is a candidate for the head coach of the Brazil national team

Following Brazil’s elimination from the World Cup in Qatar and the departure of Tite as coach, the Brazilian Federation (CBF) is looking for a coach to lead the team to the 2026 World Cup. Even before the tournament in Qatar, people from CBF informally contacted two quite strong names: Pep Guardiola and, above all, Carlo Ancelotti – reports UOL.

Brazilians have long dreamed of hiring Guardiola, however, he has not shown much interest in taking a job at Seleção and in November he extended his contract with Manchester City until 2025. As for Ancelotti, according to UOL – CBF representatives made contact with the Italian for the first time in October. Carletto it was to be open to the continuation of talks and, depending on the project presented, willing to start specific negotiations. Ancelotti, however, was to stipulate that he would start talks if the coach’s chair in the national team was vacant and intended to finish the season with Real Madrid. Therefore, it would be possible to take up the position in June or July next year.

To accept the terms Carletto, whose contract with the Royals expires at the end of June 2024, CBF would have to negotiate the departure of the coach with the club and, above all, find a temporary coach to lead the national team in March-April matches. Brazil’s opponents are not known yet, but there will be friendlies.

Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of CBF, confessed in one of the last interviews that the Federation does not rule out hiring a foreign coach, although the candidacy of a coach from Brazil, Fernando Diniz, who currently works at Fluminense, is also on the table. UOL says that Diniz can count on the support of many players, including Daniel Alves, Thiago Silva, Bruno Guimarães, Antony and above all Neymar. Diniz’s candidacy is also praised by Ronaldo, who in an interview for sports 3 he stated that “would be a good choice. It’s someone who likes a beautiful game, makes a show.”

How reliable is the information provided by UOL? It is difficult to assess at this point, but Carlo Ancelotti himself in an August interview for Il Messaggero confessed that after a stage at Real Madrid, he intends to end his career. In turn, in April, before the Champions League match with Chelsea, when asked about the possibility of taking over the Italy national team, he replied: “In 2018 I had a chance to lead Italy. However, I have to be honest: I like everyday life. I just don’t like the games themselves. I had a coach who said that coaching is the best job when you don’t have matches. The reality is different for me. For me, it’s lucky to be on the bench in a match like the Champions League quarter-final. Not everyone can do it. Of course, there is also suffering and worry. For now, my attitude is everyday and until this chip changes for me, I will not lead the national team and work three times a year. I do not like it. The experience of being at the 1994 World Cup with Italy was spectacular, but I like everyday life. When I run out of desire for my daily work, then I will stop.”
