Ukrainian a military search group is tasked with finding soldiers of the Ukrainian army in the areas reclaimed from the hands Russians. In practice, he most often finds their remains in places of battles or artillery shelling. Nic Robertson emphasized in an interview with TVN24 BiS that the families of soldiers are “desperately waiting for any information”.
He said that “he was very impressed with the knowledge the research team had.” – When this team arrives at the site, which is very often a field with some rubble, it is able to quickly assess what has happened, it knows exactly where to look. It says a lot about how often these soldiers had to go through this whole process before. They also have to work very quickly, very precisely, because there are so many places, several thousand square kilometers of territory that has been recaptured from the hands of the Russians, said Robertson.
Nic Robertson: the level of destruction is unimaginable
The journalist did not disclose his exact location, but indicated that it was the eastern part of Ukraine. – There are very few civilians here, especially in the villages where the fighting took place. The villages in the area that we passed through were abandoned – he reported. He added that “virtually every house has been destroyed.”
Robertson also said that he accompanied one of the Ukrainian soldiers on his journey when he was returning from the front to his hometown. – The roof of his house collapsed, the wall also collapsed, everything was destroyed. His wife’s sewing machine was burned out, and so were the bicycles. The entire memory of his life was destroyed – he said. As he admitted, it was hard to observe the man’s reaction when he saw what happened to his house. He also stated that “the level of destruction is unimaginable.”
The struggles to shift the front lines “extremely intense”
Robertson also said in an interview with TVN24 BiS that in his opinion there is a chance that the Ukrainians will move the front line. – It seems that they are moving this line north of where I am now, it is not progressing quickly due to the fact that mobilization is underway in Russia and several thousand new soldiers have been transferred to the battlefield. These fights are getting sharper – he reported. At the same time, he added that there are areas where Ukrainians have not been able to move the front lines for several months, their positions remain unchanged and “it is a big problem to keep them”. – But there are also places where Ukrainians are making progress. It’s hard to talk about details. However, we can see that the struggle to move the front line is extremely intense – he added.
