Two border guards were tragically killed in the Khmelnitsky region, the State Border Service of Ukraine reported. Oleksandr and Nelia were the parents of a 13-year-old son, they were coming from the front to visit him. They most likely died in a car accident, Ukrainian media reported.
“Colonel Oleksandr Dotsenko and Lieutenant Colonel Nelia Dotsenko served in the south as part of the defense forces. Oleksandr organized and conducted operational and reconnaissance activities. For a long time, Nelia was the spokesperson of the Luhansk border detachment, informed about the situation on the demarcation line and the border with the aggressor country,” she reported in statement from the State Border Service Ukraine. “We extend our sincere condolences to relatives and friends. This is an irreparable loss for the entire border guard team,” she added.
The border guard in Berdyansk (Zaporizhzhya region) reported that Oleksandr and Nelia took a short leave to meet their 13-year-old son. The boy was taken from Berdyansk, currently occupied by the Russian army, to his grandmother living in the western part of Ukraine. “This meeting turned out to be the last one,” it was reported.
The messages of the border guards do not contain information about the reasons for the tragic death of the couple.
The media in Kiev assume that the officers died in traffic accidentwhich took place on Sunday in the Khmelnitsky region. The tsn.ua portal, citing a statement from the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations, wrote that it happened on the E-50 road near the village of Kachurynci. A 40-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman died as a result of a collision between a car and a truck, tsn.ua reported.
