Ukraine. NASAMS in action. 45 Russian drones were shot down overnight. “The sky was well guarded” | News from the world
Colonel Yuri Ignat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, drew attention to the effectiveness of the weapons. “The sky was well guarded. We also wanted to thank our partners for their help. It must have been a signal for them, because our soldiers could barely keep up with reloading NASAMS systems” – he emphasised.
NASAMS is an American-Norwegian short- and medium-range system designed to combat flying targets, including missiles, ballistic missiles and drones. It can engage targets at a distance of about 40 kilometers. the first systems of this kind were delivered by the Americans to Ukraine in early November.
“We have missiles, we need more systems”
Ihnat emphasized that Ukrainian soldiers quickly learn to use the most modern types of weapons, and perhaps no one else has such experience in using ground-to-air systems.
“We have missiles, we need more systems. This is another signal for our partners – how skillfully and effectively in such combat conditions our specialists, trained only a few weeks ago, can use foreign-made combat equipment” – said the spokesman.
Also yesterday, during day, the aggressor attempted attacks with the help of unmanned aerial devices – all of them were thwarted. According to information from the Ukrainian General Staff, over the past 24 hours, the Russians launched 31 missiles, carried out 12 air strikes and 70 artillery shellings at Ukraine.
The target of the bombings was primarily civilian objects and infrastructure of the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kiev, Khmelnitsky, Donetsk, Zaporozhye, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.
