A family of eight, including four children, was murdered in Russian-controlled Makievka in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine. The occupation authorities claim that the crimes were committed by common criminals, but Petro Andryushchenko, an adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, who is loyal to the authorities in Kiev, believes that the murderers are members of the Wagner Group, Ukrainska Pravda reported on Tuesday.

The so-called Interior Ministry of the separatist Donetsk People’s Republic reported that a car had been stolen from the property of a murdered family of eight in Makievka. Subsequently, three suspects were captured in the course of the chase, all of whom have a criminal record and confessed to the crime, justifying it with the desire to steal.

Petro Andryushchenko, an adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, who is loyal to the authorities in Kiev, stated that the murder could be the work of mercenaries from the Wagner Group. According to him, this crime had a nationalistic background, as a family of Roma nationality, including four children, was killed. The official added that all those killed had gunshot wounds to the head and the shots were fired at close range.

In his opinion, the residents of Makievka themselves claim that members of the Russian occupation apparatus are responsible for the murder.

Andryushchenko assessed that the Russians will try to cover up crimes, which may appear more in the future, because Moscow recruited “inhumans and criminals, neo-Nazis and other human garbage” for the war with Ukraine.

Wagner Group

Mercenaries from the Wagner Group fought, among others, in the Ukrainian Donbas, Syria, as well as in African and Arab countries.

The formation was created in 2014, after the Russian annexation of Crimea. Its name refers to the pseudonym of its founder Dmitry Utkin, a former military intelligence officer of Russia’s military intelligence (GRU). Yevgeny Prigozhin, who supports the authorities in the Kremlin, is considered the patron of this structure.
