As reported by the Turkish media, Rumeysa Gelgi, a lawyer by profession, flew for the first time by plane. The 25-year-old went from Istanbul to San Francisco.
Rumeysa Gelgi is 215.6 centimeters. The exceptional growth caused by a disease – Weaver syndrome – earned the woman an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
The 25-year-old could not normally board a plane flying to the United States. The cabin crew were forced to remove six seats to accommodate a special stretcher for the Turkish woman’s 13-hour flight.
The media in Turkey describing the case of the 25-year-old note that Gelgi uses a wheelchair on a daily basis. Weaver syndrome, which a woman suffers from, is a rare genetic disorder that causes very rapid, abnormal growth of the bones of the body and noticeable deviations from the norm of the body build.
“A flawless journey from start to finish … it was my first flight, but it will not be my last. Many thanks to everyone who has been part of my adventure,” Gelgi, 25, wrote on Instagram after landing in the United States .
