The Xbox Series X | S sells at a surprisingly large loss. Microsoft has confirmed the details

The Xbox Series X | S are another consoles that have been sold at a loss since the premiere. Phil Spencer confirmed the details and in this case the American corporation puts a lot of money into every device purchased by players.

Microsoft started the current generation by launching two consoles on the market, which, although they cannot match the interest of PlayStation 5, the manufacturer still encourages players to its offer by, among other things, adding new games to the Xbox Game Pass catalog.

Phil Spencer during an interview at WSJ Tech Live 2022 revealed that in fact, the Xbox Series X | S sells at a large loss of around $ 100-200. However, the corporation hopes to make up for the money by using its own store and selling accessories:

“Consoles as a business model … in the general gaming scope it is quite small in relation to the places where people play. Consoles have evolved into a business model very different to phones where the consoles are actually sold at a loss.

So when someone goes and buys a Xbox from a local retailer, we pay somewhere between $ 100 and $ 200 on that purchase, with the expectation that we will get back that investment over time by selling the accessories and the store. ”

We can suspect that Sony also offers equipment at a loss, but as you know, the Japanese have recently increased the price of the PS5. Jim Ryan may have decided on this move because PlayStation is the leader of the current generation – Microsoft may decide to pay a raise next year, but at least at the moment Phil Spencer has not confirmed the details.
