The war in Ukraine. British intelligence: Russian forces cannot attack, go to defense
On most of the front, the Russian ground forces went on the defensive, the British defense ministry said in its latest announcement on the fighting in Ukraine. This is supposed to be due to the fact that the Russians have made a more realistic assessment and state that “the forces in Ukraine, which have serious staff shortages and poorly trained, are now only capable of defensive actions.”
As reported in the daily update of British intelligence, Russia probably replenished with mobilized reservists some of its units west of the Dnieper, which, however, had extremely low manning levels. In September, Russian officers described the companies in the Kherson sector as six to eight men each, while they should be around 100.

Russian Forces “Currently Only Capable of Defensive Action”
“In the last six weeks, there has been a clear shift by the Russian ground forces to a long-term, defensive posture in most areas of the frontline in Ukraine. This is probably due to a more realistic assessment that Ukraine, which has severe manpower shortages and poorly trained forces, is now only capable of defensive action, “the British Defense Ministry wrote on Twitter.
“Even if Russia succeeds in consolidating long-term defense lines in Ukraine, its operational project will remain vulnerable. To regain initiative, it will have to recreate a higher-quality, mobile force capable of dynamically countering Ukrainian breaches and conducting its own large-scale offensive operations.” the message.
