The trial of Nikoloz Basilashvili is underway in Georgia. The former wife of a tennis player gave a seriously damaging testimony to the 30-year-old.
The whole case started two years ago when Basilashvili was arrested. The player was then charged with, inter alia, use of domestic violence.
The Georgian, however, immediately released his arrest on a bail of 30,000. dollars. The tennis player never pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
Since his release on bail, he quietly continued his sports career. Even the day before yesterday, the 30-year-old started the struggle at the tournament in Cincinnati. Mackenzie McDonald defeated him in two sets.
Meanwhile, in Tbilisi, the tennis player’s ex-wife testified in court. She told about the drama she experienced during her relationship with Nikoloz.
– During the course of the wedding, I found out that he was seeing another person. On the wedding day, the woman should be happy, I was very unhappy. It is extremely difficult for me to talk about it. He raped me for the first time at our wedding – said Nelli Dorokashvili quoted by the portal “Radiotavisupleba.ge”.
– 5-6 months after the wedding, I started to be humiliated and insulted by him. Then physical violence began. He poured cold water into my ear, pulled my hair, put food on my head – the tennis player’s ex-wife reported.
In Georgia, domestic violence is punishable by up to three years in prison.
