The Taliban tightens the law. The new rules are hitting women

In line with the rules imposed by the Taliban ruling Afghanistan women are not allowed to travel in public without male companionship (husband, elder brother or father), they also have strict dress codes – only the eyes of a woman may be visible in a public place.

Among the new laws restricting women’s rights in Afghanistan is also a ban on using the gym. For over a year, girls have only been able to study up to the fifth grade, reminds the portal.

The Taliban have ruled Afghanistan since 2021. They took power after the withdrawal of Western coalition troops that had been there since 2001. During this time, they introduced many restrictions on women, including prohibiting them from working outside the home. “The principles of Islam are more important to us than anything else,” Afghanistan’s Ministry of Virtues and Vices officials repeatedly stressed.
