Energy Minister Ebba Busch stated at a specially convened conference that “Sweden’s energy supply situation is highly uncertain.” “January and February are always difficult, now there is also a real risk of power outages combined with high prices. (…) You have to be prepared for the worstBush emphasized.
Carl-Oskar Bohlin, Minister of Civil Defense who accompanied her, reminded that in Sweden every person, institution or company is responsible for preparing for the coming crisis. “Review your personal preparedness in the event of short or long-term power outages” – he noted.

Bohlin advised households to have, among other things, battery-powered radio, flashlight, water and food supplies. “In the event of a long-term power outage, a room should be prepared where it is easy to keep warm” — he noted. He added that when there is a power outage, electrical appliances should be turned off to facilitate the return of energy.
Busch recalled that Sweden had its worst period in the energy sector between December 9 and 18, when the Oskarshamn 3 nuclear reactor was shut down due to the need for an emergency overhaul. This unit is now operating normally. Temperatures were below zero at that time. In the second half of December, winter softened.

The new right-wing government, which has been in power in Sweden since mid-October, blames not only the international situation, but also the previous government for the difficult situation on the energy market. In recent years, the social democrats together with the Greens led to the premature shutdown of four nuclear reactors. In the election campaign, Busch, representing the Christian Democrats, appeared with a flashlight with the light turned off to show that the politics of the left can lead to power outages.
