The Prime Minister says that there will be no bonuses for football players
The head of government published an entry on this subject on Facebook. In it, he emphasized that leaving the Polish national team after 36 years from the group and playing in the 1/8 finals of the World Cup is a great joy. He assessed that although we were eliminated in the knockout phase of the World Cup, we played a good match against the current world champion – the French national team. “Poles took up the thrown gauntlet” – wrote Mateusz Morawiecki.
“What was missing? First of all, the experience of playing at this level and a bit of luck. Our team, however, gave us more than we could expect. The problem of Polish football for years has been the level of funding. The brutal truth of football is that great playing is where there are great money,” commented the Prime Minister.
He assessed that the role of the state is to support the development of this most popular sport and, as he added, this applies primarily to funds for youth training, infrastructure construction, but also the development and support of talents. “We will allocate additional funds for these purposes” he assured.
“The successful performance of the Poles at the World Cup is a good opportunity to start a discussion on the future of Polish football. I am convinced that without increasing the budget for Polish football, it will be difficult for us to compete with the best, and our players have shown that it is possible. They have shown that it is I also believe that rewarding for results at the most prestigious tournaments is an important element of the whole system and at the same time the role of the Association and the main sponsors, the head of the government continues.
Morawiecki’s earlier narrative, however, was a bit different. “I think that some kind of bonus is due to our players, because they really came out of the group, after all, they played really well” – this is what Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said earlier on this subject in in an interview with wPolsce.pl.
Information that the Prime Minister promised the players a bonus for leaving the group was first reported by Wirtualna Polska. Onet, in turn, reported that the bonus issue divided Robert Lewandowski and the coach of the national team – and that the dispute may even weigh on Michniewicz’s future. The bonus for leaving the group was supposed to amount to PLN 30 or even PLN 50 million, according to various accounts.
Poland made it out of the group, but then was eliminated in Qatar after losing 3-1 to France.
