On Saturday, September 10, the Accession Council officially proclaimed Charles III the King of Great Britain. The declaration was signed by all members of the Accession Council present at the meeting, beginning with the heir to the throne, Prince William. Among them were current Prime Minister Liz Truss, all her living predecessors, opposition leaders, current and former ministers, heads of government of Scotland and Wales and leaders of the Church of England.

The attention of the world’s media, however, focused primarily on King Charles III. When the monarch was about to sign the document, he behaved in a peculiar way. With a firm gesture, he ordered the palace servants to clear the desk on which stood the ink and pen tray.

British media and Internet users pointed out that the Queen-Consort Camilla and Prince William managed to organize their own desk space – writes the Daily Mail.

The Council of Accession formally proclaimed Charles III the new King of Great Britain on Saturday morning. The declaration was then read from the balcony of St. James, where the first meeting of the Accession Council was held since 1952.

“With one voice of language and heart, we announce that Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, through the death of our deceased Sovereign, who remains in a happy memory, became our only righteous and legitimate lord, Charles III, by the grace of God, King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland North and its other kingdoms and territories, head of the Commonwealth of Nations, defender of faith, to whom we declare our trust and obedience with humble affection, asking God, on whose behalf kings and queens exercise power, to bless His Majesty with long and happy years of reign over us “- proclaims declaration.

King Charles III came to the second part of the Council meeting and read out his declaration in which he stated that he was aware of the duties that had been delegated to him. He emphasized that his mother had set an unparalleled example of loving and dedicated service, and while we mourn her, we are grateful for her life.

“I am deeply aware of this great heritage and the duties and responsibilities of the Sovereign that have now passed onto me. In taking on these responsibilities, I will follow the inspiring example that was given to me in upholding the constitutional government, and striving for the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these Islands and the Kingdoms and Territories of the Commonwealth of Nations around the world, declared the new king. – And by carrying out the hard task that has been imposed on me and to which I now devote what is left of my life, I pray for the guidance and help of Almighty God – he added.
