Near Izjum, one of the cities recaptured during the Ukrainian offensive, the soldiers found the wreckage of the Russian multi-role Su-30SM (RF-81773, “Czerwony 62”). The discovery confirms earlier information about the downing of the plane. We remind you what kind of machine it is and what possibilities it has.
Not so long ago, the Ukrainians showed the wreckage of the Russian one Su-34 bomber with boarding number 20 (RF-95004), and they are in a hurry with information about another, similar discovery. The wreckage of the Russian Su-30SM multi-role combat aircraft (RF-81773, “Red 62”) was found near Izjum, a city in eastern Ukraine.
Wreck of the Russian Su-30SM at Izjum
In the published video, which can be seen below, you can see how little is left of the plane most likely serving in the 14th Kursk Fighter Aviation Regiment. Such losses are a serious blow to the Russian army. As we have already informed, one Su-34 costs about 36 million dollars. In turn, one Su-30SM – nearly USD 50 million. It is considered to be one of the newest and most expensive combat aircraft in Russia.
The Su-30SM is a modern generation 4 ++, two-seater multi-role combat aircraft, developed by the Suchoja design office. This improved version of the Su-30MKI variant can be used to destroy targets in the air, on land and at sea. In addition, the machine works well in missions related to air reconnaissance and is suitable for electronic combat. The aircraft can also act as a command and control platform in a fleet of combat aircraft performing joint missions.
According to Airforce Technology, the Su-30SM is equipped with Friend or Foe Identification (IFF) equipment, a global positioning system and an inertial navigation system. Open architecture allows for the integration of modern avionics, including a new radar, radio, reconnaissance system and other support systems for ongoing operations. This solution greatly facilitates the modernization of machines and adapting them to the latest achievements in the field of military technology.
The Su-30SM is a machine capable of carrying advanced weapons weighing up to 8 tons. Therefore, the loss of another such aircraft is a serious blow to Russia. Fewer usable planes i fighters makes it difficult to maintain air superiority and destroy ground targets, in this case by using, inter alia, air-to-air missiles, supersonic anti-ship missiles or Oniks anti-aircraft missiles with an operating range from 120 to even 300 km.
