Until now, it did not matter whether the U-24 rider was a Pole or a foreigner. This one was not counted towards the limit of four national players a team must have.
In 2023 it will be different. If a Pole is a U-24 rider, he will be included in the Poles’ limit. EŻ and GKSŻ informed about it in a press release. Imagine the surprise when it turned out that the regulation also applies to the 2nd Speedway League.
The first comments were that the speedway headquarters responsible for the 2nd LŻ, i.e. the GKSŻ, were wrong.
– This is not a mistake, the U-24 will also apply in the season of 2023 in the 2nd LŻ – Zbigniew Fiałkowski, vice-chairman of GKSŻ told us.
As a reminder, the U-24 was introduced to the Polish leagues for the 2021 season. Then it was in force in all three league classes. In 2022, however, the U-24 was withdrawn from the 2nd LŻ. As it turns out, only for a year. The U-24s will return to this level in the 2023 season.
The regulation of the U-24 player in Polish leagues has as many supporters as opponents.
About what idea he wants to “sell” to the famous creator of inflatable bands Tony Briggs, whose speedway riders could be met at the former Przystanek Woodstock (now Pol’and’Rock Festival), which bet he lost during the first Grand Prix in history and on the track in Wroclaw. The guest of the podcast “Znamy z żużla” by Kamil Turecki is Adam Drewniok, bassist of the Carrantuohill band, who has a gold and platinum record to his credit.
