As Lukasz Greinke explained, coal arrives at the Port of Gdansk, e.g. from Indonesia, South Africa or South America. – So far, 12 million tons of coal have been reloaded. We can see that we are able to reload approx. 400,000 tons. tons per week. At the moment, exports are balanced with what we reload on board, so today we do not recognize the risk of congestion in our terminals, i.e. building up enough stocks that will make it impossible for us to accept new cargo from the board. This outflow of goods is also ensured, he said.
The President of the Port of Gdansk indicated that quays where units with this raw material are moored are crucial for efficient handling and further distribution of coal. – We have the Ore Pier in the Northern Port for 100,000-metre liners. In turn, for smaller units, up to 50 thousand. tonnes, are the Dworzec Drzewny Quay and the Rudowe Quay. There, we are able to handle four vessels at a time, but at least one must have its own unloading facilities. However, this situation will change, because our daughter company PG Eksploatacja expects two additional new devices in June and July (Liebherr LHM 550 cranes – editorial note), therefore these handling capacities on board will increase even more. We will be able to unload those vessels that come to our port simply faster – he noted.
He explained that the year 2022 at the Port of Gdansk was marked by many key investments. Among them, he mentioned road and rail project at the back of the Przemyśl Quay, modernization of the fairway, expansion of the quays and improvement of navigation conditions in the Inner Port. – In the meantime, we were preparing tender procedures for the next investment perspective. Quays: Bytomskie, Rudowe, Wiślane, Węglowe, are the investments we want to deal with in the Inner Port in the coming years – he stressed.
He added that the biggest operational challenge in 2022 was the increased transshipment and ship traffic in quantities that had not been present in the port of Gdańsk so far. “We handled it very well. We are constantly polishing the operational processes that we have at the port so as to make them even more efficient and to increase our capacity even further,” said the President of the Port of Gdansk.
