Ski Jumping. Dawid Kubacki in great shape. Another contest today
World Cup leader Dawid Kubacki will fight today in Titisee-Neustadt for his third victory of the season. In January 2021, the Polish representative triumphed twice at the Hochfirstschanze, on Friday he was second. He lost only to Slovenian Anze Lanisk. The competition starts at 15.45. Qualifying is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
The fight was to the very end, there were emotions. Sure, you would like to be on the top step of the podium, but you have to learn a lesson for the future the 32-year-old said on Friday.
At the beginning of November, Kubacki won two competitions in Wisła. In Finnish Ruka, he finished fourth and sixth. After five individual competitions, the Pole is the leader of the general classification of the World Cup with 370 points, and the second is Lanisek – 336. Both players are in good and even form at the beginning of the season, as is Piotr Żyła, who is fifth in the overall standings and finished sixth on Friday.
Trainer Thomas Thurnbichler sent Żyła and Kubacki to Saturday’s mixed doubles competition, in which they performed with Kinga Rajda and Nicole Konderla. After the first round, the Polish team took only eighth place, but after good jumps by Żyła and Kubacki, it moved up one position, ahead of Finland. Saturday’s competition was won by Austria ahead of Norway and Germany.
Hochfirstschanze is a happy facility for Polish ski jumpers. Adam Małysz triumphed here three times – once in 2001 and twice in 2007. The record holder of the 142 m hill is the Slovene Domen Prevc, who jumped 148 meters here in 2016.
Until Sunday qualifying at 14.30 seven white and red will join. In addition to Kubacki and Żyła, these will be Paweł Wąsek, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Jakub Wolny, Tomasz Pilch and Kamil Stochwho did not make it to the second series on Friday and is only 24th in the World Cup classification.
I don’t want to make excuses. It just doesn’t go. I have the feeling that even if I take a step forward, then I take two steps back. What worked yesterday didn’t work today. This is not an easy situation for me Stoch commented.
Women will also compete in the individual competition on Sunday. The main candidates for the victory are the Austrians Eva Pinkelnig and Marita Kramer, the Norwegians Silje Opseth and Anna Odine Stroem and the German Katharina Althaus.
The only Polish competitor who scored World Cup points this season is Konderla, who celebrated her 21st birthday on December 8th. In Saturday’s mixed team competition she jumped 115 m twice. These were her best attempts in Titisee-Neustadt.
Two very even jumps. Quite positive and certainly much better than yesterday. My confidence grows from competition to competition – judged Konderla after Saturday’s competition.
Sunday’s women’s competition will start at 12.15, while men – at 15.45.
