Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will no longer receive security updates

The Galaxy Note 9 got the last security update and thus disappeared from the list of Samsung smartphones that are still supported. The manufacturer has been updating it for 4 years after the premiere. The planned EU regulations would require its updating.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 hit the market in 2018 and has been updated since then. Samsung has issued security patches according to its frequency mode, which is recently only once a quarter, but it has done so on a regular basis. The recently released package was the last one for Note 9 – signals SamMobile. Interestingly, if they were already in force regulations proposed by the European Commissionthe smartphone would have to receive corrections at least until mid-2023.

The list of currently updated Samsung smartphones has changed as a matter of course. Galaxy Note 9 is no longer present on it, but there are fresh Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4, which will soon receive security fixes as quickly as possible. Note 10 phones will now only receive patches quarterly – previously they were updated monthly.

For users of the described Samsung smartphones who value security, this may mean the need to plan the purchase of a new phone in the near future. Android updated less frequently (or not at all) is an increased chance for fraudsters who try to take advantage of all security flaws to infect devices and steal data from them.
