Russia – Iran, war in Ukraine. Washington Post: Iranian drones will be manufactured in Russia

Moscow has quietly reached an agreement with Tehran to manufacture Iranian drones in Russia, the Washington Post reported, citing intelligence.

The Washington Post described the intelligence that “security agencies” from the US and “other Western countries” had seen. According to them, in early November representatives Russia and Iran met in Tehran and finalized an agreement on the production of Iranian drones in Russia. It’s about such machines that Russia uses to attack Ukraine. In an interview with the newspaper, this version of events was confirmed by three officials familiar with the case.

Hundreds of drones are to be built

Hundreds of drones are to be built in Russia. Both sides, we read in the “Washington Post”, are working to transport key components required for the production of machines to Russia as soon as possible.

Starting production on its territory, Russia could dramatically increase its stock of these relatively inexpensive but highly destructive units, writes the American daily. During the aggression against Ukraine, Moscow has already used more than 400 such machines, according to the cited data.

Reaction of US authorities: Iran and Russia may try to lie to the whole world, but they will not hide the facts

US National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson wrote in a statement sent to the Washington Post that “Iran and Russia may try to lie to the whole world, but they will not hide the facts: Tehran is helping to kill Ukrainian civilians by arming and assisting Russia in its operations.”

United States – together with allies and partners – they are doing everything to expose and stop Iranian shipments to Russia and Russia’s actions against Ukrainians. We will continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance it needs to defend itself,” Watson said.

The Russian embassy in Washington sent journalists to the Russian Defense Ministry. However, he did not respond to the Washington Post’s questions.

Iranian Representation in UN also did not directly answer the questions posed. The spokesman only stated that Iran and Russia “maintain cooperation in the field of joint defence, science and development, which was already in place before the conflict in Ukraine.”
