On Thursday, in Bucharest, there was a meeting of representatives of the furniture sector with the Romanian government.
Romanian producers complained, inter alia, difficulties in acquiring cheap wood for the manufacture of their goods. They indicated that in August and September, due to a lack of raw material for the production of plates, most Romanian plants in this sector stopped working, indicated the Romanian portal Hotnews, reporting the meeting.
The representatives of the furniture industry also emphasized the difficulties posed by strong foreign competition. “If a wood-based board is produced in Romania, which is two or three times more expensive than in Austria or Poland, we do not have a competitive advantage” – said entrepreneurs from the Association of Furniture Manufacturers in Romania (APMR).
As Hotnews writes, the meeting participants emphasized that For several weeks, most plants producing wood-based panels have been recording downtime in production.
The government representative in Bucharest assured that in the coming months an improvement in the situation of furniture companies in the country should be expected, along with the announcement of the Romanian State Forests on additional supplies of wood to the market.
