One ingredient that changes everything. Brussels sprouts finally taste amazing

In this form, Brussels sprouts finally gain the love they deserve a long time ago.

Secret? Adding a little bit anchovywhich gives the dish a rich, dry flavor. Don’t be scared – even people who hate anchovies won’t taste them. When we add to this garlic, honey and chili, we will complete the Brussels delicacy and make it a perfect addition to any autumn dinner.

The idea comes from Christopher Kimball’s book Milk Street.

A recipe that will change your approach to Brussels sprouts

  • half a kg of Brussels sprouts (cut in halves)
  • 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 teaspoons of honey
  • salt
  • 4 cloves of garlic (crushed)
  • 4 anchovy fillets (crushed)
  • chili flakes
  • 2 teaspoons of lemon juice

A method of preparing:

  • In a large bowl, combine the Brussels sprouts with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 2 teaspoons of honey and half a teaspoon of salt. Set aside.
  • In a thick frying pan, heat the remaining 3 tablespoons of olive oil, add garlic, anchovies, and 1/4 teaspoon of chili flakes.
  • Cook and stir until the garlic starts to change color (3-4 minutes).
  • Pour the sauce into a bowl. Set aside.
  • Put the frying pan on the fire again, add the Brussels sprouts, try to arrange them with the cut side down as a single layer. Fry without stirring until they turn brown and dark spots appear on them – about 3-7 minutes.
  • Turn the Brussels sprouts over and fry until tender for another 3 to 5 minutes.
  • When they are ripe, put the Brussels sprouts in a bowl and mix with the garlic mixture, the remaining 2 teaspoons of honey and lemon juice. Sprinkle with salt and chili flakes.
