The 56-year-old coach started his stay on the Sevilla coach bench with a strong blow and in the first season he reached the club from Andalusia to win the Europa League (2019/2020), defeating the favored Inter Milan in the final (3: 2).

Then, in subsequent competitions, he was regularly placed in the top four of the LaLiga with the team, and thanks to this he entered the group stage of the Champions League.

The start of the current struggle did not turn out too happy for Julen Lopetegui, as his team presented very poorly and only achieved one victory in ten appearances. This state of affairs prompted the Seville authorities to announce the premature termination of cooperation with the former coach of the Spanish national team and the guardian of FC Porto or Real Madrid, who replaced Jorge Sampaoli.

Before the official advent of this moment, suggestions began to appear in the media that the 56-year-old would not be unemployed for too long, as Wolverhampton was beginning to be eager to hire him.

The experienced coach initially rejected the proposal to start the challenge at the Premier League level as Bruno Large’s successor. However, the representatives of “Wolves” did not give up and after another round of negotiations they persuaded the Spaniard to pass an express return to the bench after a month of break.

The team from Molineux Stadium did not inform in the issued announcement about the length of the agreement concluded with Lopetegui and his staff, but assured that he would start working in the club from November 14 after receiving the necessary permits to work in the UK.

– Julen is the best coach. He has excellent experience at an elite level. We are very pleased that we agreed on a contract to bring him to “Wilki”. Julen has been our number one on the list right from the start and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks, said President Jeff Shi.

Thus, the 56-year-old will make his debut in a new role after the end of the national team break at the World Cup on December 26 in a match against Everton.

Until then, in the clashes against Brighton, Leeds United (League Cup) and Arsenal, the team will continue to be led by interim coach Steve Davis.
