More weapons tests, strengthening defenses and “fighting the enemy” are the goals for North Korea’s army that leader Kim Jong Un has indicated, state news agency KCNA reported. She did not give details of the speech of the leader of the communist regime, according to the AP agency, it is probably about expanding Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal and introducing a number of technologically advanced weapons systems.

Priorities for the coming year North Korean leader Kim Jong Un presented on the second day of the plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Labor Party. He reviewed the “newly emerging predicament” on the Korean Peninsula and the “broader political landscapes”.

As the state news agency KCNA wrote, Kim set “fighting the enemy” and strengthening the defense force as the main direction of the army’s development.

“Kim set new key goals for strengthening self-sufficient defense capabilities to continue in 2023 in a multilaterally changing situation,” KCNA wrote, without giving details of the country’s leader’s speech.

Pyongyang is likely to expand its nuclear arsenal and introduce a range of high-tech weapons systems, such as multi-warhead missiles, more precise long-range weapons, spy satellites and advanced drones, the AP reported.

According to the AP, Kim also intends to use his enhanced nuclear capabilities to force other countries to accept his country’s status as a nuclear power, which he believes is necessary to lift international sanctions.

North Korean drones violated South Korean airspace

On Monday five unmanned aerial vehicles from North Korea flew over the demarcation line separating Korean states. One of them flew over the northern part of Seoul. The South Korean military tried to shoot down the drones for five hours, but the operation was unsuccessful.

This year, the Pyongyang regime also conducted a record number of missile tests and amended its nuclear doctrine, according to which it can use nuclear weapons first. North Korea launched missiles of various types and ranges, including intercontinental ballistic missiles, which commentators believe could be used in a nuclear attack on the territory of the United States.
