“No” to nuclear weapons in Israel. The United Nations decided
The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a resolution obliging Israel to get rid of nuclear weapons, which the country has never admitted to possess, the Jerusalem Post website reported on Sunday.
The UN General Assembly Committee voted on Friday a resolution tabled by the Palestinian Authority and 19 other countries, including Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, by a ratio of 152 to 5.

Another 24 countries abstained from voting, including members of the European Union, including Poland. The resolution does not mention Iran, which is developing a nuclear weapons program. It implies that Israel must get rid of all its nuclear weapons and surrender its nuclear facilities to the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Calls on Tel Aviv “to accede to the Treaty without further delay, not to develop, produce, test or otherwise acquire nuclear weapons, to renounce the possession of nuclear weapons, and to extend all its nuclear facilities to the full scope of the Agency’s safeguards as an important measure. building trust among all countries in the region and as a step towards strengthening peace and security. “
Israel has never confirmed that it has nuclear weapons.
The committee also approved 170 votes in favor – including Iran’s – on Friday for the creation of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East. Israel was the only country to oppose this. Four countries abstained: the United States, Cameroon, Comoros and Tanzania. (PAP)
