Nicolas Schindelholz died at the age of 34

The center-back started his career at a professional level with FC Basel’s youth team, but was never honored to make his debut for the senior team.

For this reason, in later years he continued his adventure with football in FC Thun, FC Luzern and FC Aarau. In all of these teams, he could not spread his wings because he was struggling with major or minor health problems from time to time.

In the latter club, he had to face not only muscular injuries, because at some point he began to have problems with endurance. For this reason, more than two years ago, he underwent a detailed examination which revealed that he was attacked by lung cancer.

Nicolas Schindelholz immediately interrupted his career and then he definitely ended it in mid-2021, because he already knew that he would not be able to return to the field.

The Swiss fought cancer bravely until yesterday when FC Aarau was informed of his death.

The team authorities, however, refrained from publishing the announcement because they wanted the players, some of whom had the pleasure of playing along with the defender, to focus fully on Sunday’s knockout match against FC Basel. It ended in a defeat after extra time (1: 1, 1: 3).

Then the 34-year-old was informed about the death and a statement was posted on the website.

“Our former center-back Nicolas Schindelholz died of cancer at the age of only 34.

Defensor played a total of 39 games for FC Aarau between 2018 and 2021, where he eventually had to end his career due to illness. Former FC Basel junior was previously affiliated with FC Luzern and FC Thun.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Nicolas Schindelholz. FC Aarau expresses heartfelt condolences to their loved ones and wishes them a lot of strength in this difficult time, “the release reads.
