The Paris court found all the defendants guilty of the charges against them. Two men have been sentenced to 18 years in prison for belonging to a terrorist group. One defendant was sentenced to 12 years in prison for participating in a criminal group. The others were given sentences ranging from two to eight years in prison. They were accused, among other things, of arms smuggling.
The bomber: a 31-year-old Tunisian, acted premeditated
The media reports that the families of the victims reacted to the court’s verdict with applause. The court confirmed in its judgment that the attack in Nice was of a terrorist nature. It emphasized that the bomber – 31-year-old Tunisian Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel – acted premeditatedly, “in order to sow terror and intimidation”, and that he had long been interested in propaganda jihad. However, it was not possible to prove whether the terrorist acted on behalf of the so-called Islamic Statethat took responsibility for the attack.
One of the largest trials in French history
