Zakłady Azotowe Kędzierzyn, owned by Grupa Azoty, decided to minimize the production of fertilizers. According to the company, the decision results from the extraordinary and unprecedented increase in natural gas prices.

“Grupa Azoty Zakłady Azotowe Kędzierzyn, a subsidiary of Grupa Azoty, decided to reduce the operation of the installation to a minimum, ie to 43% for the Fertilizer Production Unit, as of August 24,” said Grupa Azoty in a press release.

“The current situation on the natural gas market, which determines the profitability of the production, is exceptional, completely independent of the Grupa Azoty Group and was not predictable” – it was written in the press release.

Grupa Azoty is the largest chemical concern in Poland.

On Monday evening, Grupa Azoty informed about stopping the operation of the installation for the production of nitrogen fertilizers, caprolactam and polyamide 6. On the other hand, the plants in Puławy, which are part of the capital group, reduced the production of ammonia to about 10 percent. production capacity and withheld some production in the plastics and agro segments.

Additionally, on Tuesday, Anwil, a company from the PKN Orlen capital group, temporarily suspended the production of nitrogen fertilizers. The decisions were made on the basis of extraordinary and unprecedented growth natural gas prices in Europe.

Prime Minister on Tuesday Mateusz Morawiecki he addressed the deputy prime ministers Jacek Sasin and Henryk Kowalczyk for the development of intervention mechanisms on the fertilizer market in the shortest possible time in connection with the record high prices of natural gas on the markets in Europe.
