Moldova. Portal Rise: Igor Dodon received money from businessmen close to the Kremlin
Former president of Moldova, Igor Dodon, for several months at the turn of 2021 and 2022 received transfers from an association of Russian entrepreneurs associated with the Kremlin, the Moldovan portal Rise reported on Monday.
According to the findings of the portal, the pro-Russian ex-president has received payments in rubles from the Entrepreneurial association in recent months Russia (Diełovaya Rossiya) whose members are linked to the Kremlin.
According to Chisinau journalists, this organization, declaring “to defend Russia’s interests”, made these payments through the Moldavian-Russian Business Union that it founded.
The rise.md portal found that although Dodon lost the presidential election in 2020 to Mai Sandu and lost the position of head of state, his salaries paradoxically increased thanks to money from Russian entrepreneurs.
“After leaving the office of president (…) Dodon switched to ‘maintenance’ by an association financed by businessmen close to the Kremlin” – wrote the portal, presenting six transfers to Dodon with a total value of about $ 300,000, which were paid between November 2021 and April this year.
On May 24, Dodon was detained by the police on suspicion of involvement in corrupt practices. Since then, he has been under house arrest.
