Massive explosion at a mosque in Kabul

Witnesses to the event say that a powerful explosion was heard in the district Khair Khan in Kabul, and the force of the explosion smashed windows in nearby buildings. According to Khalid Zadran, the local police spokesman, the services are on the spot and an investigation is underway.

Many people suffered as a result of the explosion. As reported by journalist Ali Latifi, at least 20 people were killed and 40 were injured. According to unofficial reports, among the victims was the imam of the mosque, Maulvi Amir Mohammad Kabuli. The number of deaths may increase.

27 people were admitted to the hospital of the non-governmental organization Emergency in Kabul. Among them were five children, including a seven-year-old.

The explosion was condemned by Taliban spokesman Bilal Karimi. “Murderers of civilians and perpetrators of crimes will soon be caught and punished for their actions,” he wrote on Twitter.
