The Japanese Kyodo agency, citing anonymous sources, informed that the US government is planning to send the aircraft carrier to the Sea of Japan and is preparing a draft of additional sanctions against North Korea in the event Pyongyang conducts a nuclear weapons test.
The Pyongyang regime fired a record number of ballistic missiles this year and concerns are mounting that it is gearing up for its seventh nuclear test, the first since September 2017. There are speculations that this may happen during the parliamentary elections in USA.
If Pyongyang conducts a nuclear test, the US will most likely submit a motion for a Security Council resolution The United Nations with new sanctions against North Korea. According to Kyodo sources, they would target the export of crude oil and processed petroleum products to the country and the North Korean hacker group Lazarus.
