Jan Nowicki is dead. The actor was 83 years old
Wojciech Nawrocki informed the media about Jan Nowicki’s death from the town of Kowal. As we read: “The late Jan Nowicki passed away. Tonight our compatriot Jan Nowicki suddenly passed away at the age of 83 – a great actor, writer, Honorary Citizen of the City of Blacksmith”.
Nowicki came from Kowal – a town in Kujawy, he was its honorary citizen. He lived in Krzewent near his hometown.
Jan Nowicki created the most characteristic roles in the films “Wielki Szu”, “Sanatorium pod Klepsydrą”, “Pan Wołodyjowski” and “Sztos”. For over 30 years he was an actor of the Stary Theater in Krakow, where he made his debut and played dozens of roles. His roles as Stawrogin in Possessed or Arthur in Tango have gone down in the history of Polish theatre.
Jan Nowicki, after a few years of absence, returned in 2008 with a role in Jacek Bławut’s “Not Evening Yet”. In recent years, he has played in the movie “Sztos 2” and “Show, baby, what’s inside”. He also appeared in several series, e.g. “Magda M.” or “Appetite for Love”.
He was the author of several books, including “My Dog Thoughts” or “Meetings in Paradise”.
He was born on November 5, 1939 in Kowal. He was a graduate of the State Higher School of Theater in Krakow. He also lectured there, and in 1973-74 he was vice-dean of the Acting Department.
He died at the age of 83.
