I will just add that, apart from the screen diagonal and battery capacity, iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have identical specifications. The news that you will read about below applies to both models.

Refreshed design and Dynamic Island

While the usual “fourteen” looks almost like last year’s iPhones 13, in the case of the Pro models the design has been slightly refreshed.

The skeleton of the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max is made of surgical steel, the screen of the device is covered with a scratch-resistant ceramic glass, and the back is covered with textured, mat glass that does not collect fingerprints.

The most important novelty in relation to the 13 Pro models, however, is the elimination of the infamous notch, i.e. a large indentation under the top edge of the screen. And replacing it with an area that Apple has christened by a rather pretentious name – Dynamic Island.

Example? When I touch this area while playing music, I will automatically be moved to application Music. In turn, when I hold my finger on the “tablet” longer, it will change to the music control widget.

Example number two: I start the clock application and start the timer. Upon exiting to the home screen, a small widget will appear on the Dynamic Island area, counting down the remaining time. What happens if I start listening to music again? Then the dynamic island will split into two elements – the one on the left will allow me to control the music, and the one on the right – the timer.

Importantly, the successor of notch works not only with native Apple applications, but also in apps from external producers, such as Spotify, YouTube Music or WhatsApp.

This new solution, like notch, also has its dark side. When playing a movie in full screen mode, this area obscures part of the displayed image, which can be irritating. So Apple has not eliminated the biggest problem related to the note. He just cleverly hid it.

A brilliant screen with Always On Display

iPhones 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have a Super Retina XDR ProMotion display, with a diagonal of 6.1 and 6.7-inches. What caught my attention during the first contact with the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the very high brightness of the screen. At its peak it reaches a level up to 2000 rivets, which is twice as high as in the iPhone 13 Pro. The maximum brightness in HDR mode is even 1600 rivetsw, or 33 percent. more than the previous generation iPhone.

The ProMotion screen offers variable refresh rate ranging from 120 Hz to just 1 Hz. This, in turn, allowed Apple to introduce a novelty that many people have been waiting for a long time.

I’m talking about a function Always On Display, that is, about an undying screen. When we press the device lock button, our eyes will no longer see black nothingness, but a neat and functional AoD screen.

This is where the difference between AoD screens known from Android smartphones and the solution proposed by Apple becomes apparent. In the first case, the AoD function was usually limited to the clock and notification icons

Apple, in turn, offers a full-fledged and only heavily dimmed lock screen with wallpaper, app widgets and notifications. Of course, the AoD screen can be fully personalized.

My only doubt is how this solution will translate into battery life on a single smartphone charge. I will definitely look at this issue when testing the device.

New 48MP main camera

iPhone 14 Pro Max has a photographic system consisting of three lenses. The main camera lens has changed the most. Now it has 48 megapixels and works in technology Quad-Pixelwhich combines four smaller pixels into one larger pixel.

As Apple emphasizes, this translates into higher quality of photos taken in lower lighting conditions, as well as even more possibilities for editing photos in ProRAW format.

The other two lenses are 12 megapixel ultra-wide eyelet – with better macro mode and 12 megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

The novelty that caught my special attention is also Adaptive True Tone flash. It consists of nine LEDs that automatically adjust to the selected focal length.

There’s also the TruDepth front camera that features autofocus for the first time, allowing you to focus faster in low light.

When it comes to video recording and editing, apart from the well-known and popular Cinematic Mode, a new one has also appeared Action Modethat stabilizes the video despite strong shocks, movement or vibrations.

How all these novelties translate into You will see the real quality of photos and videos in the coming days, when I subject the iPhone 14 Pro Max camera to thorough testing.

A16 Bionic processor

As long as the basic versions of the iPhone 14 drives last year’s A15 Bionic system, their successor came to the 14 Pro models. The 6-core A16 Bionic is the first Apple chip made in a four-nanometer process.

Apple boasts that this system is about 10 percent faster than its predecessor. I decided to check it out. In the GeekBench 5 benchmark, the A16 Bionic scored 1,874 points in the single core test and 5431 points in the multi-core test. Results for A15 Bionic they were, in turn, 1729 and 4771 points, respectively. So we are talking about a power gain of 8-10 percent.

For now, iPhone 14 Pro Max promises to be a solid piece of equipment. However, I am curious how its battery will handle during longer tests, as well as how the camera and new photo functions will fall against the iPhone 13 Pro and Android competition.

I do not hide that the final rating will be influenced by the horrendously high price of this device. Poland for it is one of the few countries where iPhone prices have gone up. As for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, it costs PLN 7,199 in the “cheapest” variant, and PLN 10,499 in the most expensive one.
