Pension indexation will be higher than assumed by the government. The Central Statistical Office published data on the so-called retirement inflation. It is almost 10 percent. higher than the year before and is at the level of 14.8 percent. This means that pensions will increase by at least that much. The government has also announced that the minimum pension increase will be PLN 250. See in the gallery how much your benefit will be from March 2023.

Pensioners’ inflation is the average annual increase in the prices of consumer goods and services for households of retirees and pensioners. This is one of the factors taken into account when valorizing benefits for seniors.

The Central Statistical Office reported that the average annual price index of consumer goods and services for households of pensioners in 2022 amounted to 14.8 percent. In 2021, this indicator was at the level of 4.9 percent. This means a significant increase in inflation.

“The average annual price index of consumer goods and services for households of pensioners in 2022 compared to 2021 amounted to 114.8 (price increase by 14.8%)” – informs the Central Statistical Office.

Old-age and disability pensions are indexed every year. The value of the valorization index depends, among other things, on from the level of inflation. In 2022, it amounted to 14.4% in the case of the national average inflation. and pension inflation – 14.8 percent. The index of the higher inflation rate is used for indexation. For 2022, pension inflation becomes crucial. In addition, the indexation depends on the real increase in wages in the economy in a given year. We will get these data in February. Data for the third quarter of 2022 show that wages fell (the increase was 12 percent, and inflation 13.1 percent). If the downward trend continues in the fourth quarter, the wage index will simply not be taken into account, and the final increase in pensions would be based only on pension inflation, which means an increase of 14.8 percent.

It can already be said that the indexation of benefits adopted by the government has been set too low. The government assumed that the indexation of pensions would amount to 13.8 percent this year. However, after the announcement of the inflation data of the Central Statistical Office, estimates appeared regarding the increase in the indexation level – to at least 14.8 percent.
