Great Britain. The government confirmed plans to transfer tanks to Ukraine
British authorities plan to transfer tanks to Ukraine. Kyiv has long sought this in order to strengthen the forces repelling Russian aggression. Sky News, citing anonymous sources, said that about ten Challenger 2 tanks were involved.
The British government first confirmed on Wednesday that it plans to donate Ukraine tanks. A Downing Street spokesman told reporters that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had asked Defense Secretary Ben Wallace to “work with partners” in the coming weeks to go “further and faster with our support for Ukraine, including the supply of tanks”.
“We are accelerating our support to Ukraine by providing next-generation military technology that will help win this war. It is clear that tanks can enable Ukrainians to change the balance of power, the spokesman said.

Information about the possibility of transferring the tanks and the ongoing negotiations on this matter was first reported on Monday, citing anonymous sources, by the Sky News station. According to her, it is about ten Challenger 2 tanks.
Ten tanks possibly donated by Great Britain will not in itself change the balance of power. However, this precedent is expected to push Ukraine’s other Western allies to do the same. It would also be more realistic to transfer the tanks as part of a broader international agreement, which is sought by, among others, Poland.
