- Germany has reached an agreement with Norway to increase gas supplies to the country of our western neighbors
- Thanks to this, Berlin, which has so far been very dependent on imports of blue fuel from Russia, will be able to at least partially replace Gazprom’s supplies.
- At the same time, thanks to this agreement, Norway became the largest gas exporter in the world. In this way, it overtook Russia
- We would like to remind you that Poland still does not have sufficient gas supplies from Norway to fill the Baltic Pipe, which is starting in autumn.

“Norway has increased gas production for us. It will help us get through the winter now and refill our gas tanks next year,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wrote on Twitter.
He also thanked the local authorities that “it can rely on Norway as its energy supplier.”
The details of the agreement between Norway and Germany are not yet known, but it is already known that thanks to it the Scandinavian country will become the largest gas exporter in the world. For the first time in history, it will overtake Russia in this respect.

Let us remind you that at the same time Poland is very keen on obtaining Norwegian gas. At Business Insider Polska, we were the first to write at the end of July that blue fuel may not be enough to fully start up the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline. This one is to start this fall.
The Polish gas giant PGNiG still has no contracts signed for such volumes of gas from Norway that would fill the new Baltic Pipe gas pipeline. This is the key direction of blue fuel supplies to Poland after it has been cut off from the Russian raw material. Meanwhile, there are many people willing to buy Norwegian gas and Poland has to compete for contracts with other European countries.
Our interlocutors have already warned some time ago that it would be extremely difficult to fill the Baltic Pipe next year, and if it does, it will be very expensive. – Polish negotiators are not wizards – experts say, but point out that our country has something extra to offer to Norwegians – concessions for offshore windmills.
There is less and less time to negotiate because the new Baltic Pipie gas pipeline, connecting Poland with deposits on the Norwegian shelf, will be launched in October, although still to a limited extent. It will reach its full capacity from January 2023 and is to play a key role for the energy security of our country. Russian Gazprom has already turned off the gas tap in some countriesincluding Poland, and recently he also screwed it on to the Germans.
Our findings show that PGNiG has contracted deliveries for the reserved Baltic Pipe capacity from October to December this year. Except that this power will be negligible and will reach only 800 million cubic meters. gas. The challenge is to fill the Baltic Pipe in 2023, when PGNiG itself has a total of 8 billion cubic meters to contract. gas. The full capacity of the new gas pipeline will reach 10 billion cubic meters from January. annually. This is as much as we could import from Russia every year under the Yamal contract.
However, the Minister of Climate was reassuring. – One contract with a Danish partner – with Oersted – is signed for 6 billion cubic meters, own extraction is approx. 3 billion cubic meters. The next ones are negotiated – both medium- and long-term ones – said Anna Moscow.
