On the way back from Lviv, where Erdogan met with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the Turkish president recalled that “Turkey has always been part of the solution to Syria’s problems.”

“We have always taken responsibility for the situation in Syria, and our goal remains regional peace and the security of our country,” Erdogan said. He added that Turkey did not plan to seize any part of Syria’s territory, the integrity of which it fully respects. “The Syrian regime must be aware of this,” he stressed.

The Turkish President admitted that “Ankara is coordinating every decision made in the Syrian case with Russia.” – Let us show our solidarity with Russia so that we can fight together against terrorism in Syria, especially the one in the north of the country – he appealed. Moscow has been supporting the Assad regime militarily and politically for years.

Ergodan, speaking of the aid provided to the Syrian Kurds, assessed that “the United States is overwhelmingly responsible for supporting terrorism in Syria.” Ankara claims that the Syrian Kurdish YPG / PYD troops are part of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, an organization considered terrorist, among others by Turkey, the EU and the US.

For weeks, the Turkish president has been suggesting launching another offensive against the Kurds living in northern Syria. Now he reiterated that Turkey was ready to conduct the operation.

Erdogan also drew attention to the problem of four million Syrian refugees in Turkey. – We do not host them so that they are in constant war with the regime; I hope that the process we are part of will be beneficial for everyone henceforth – said the president. The Turkish opposition regularly calls on the government to reconcile with the Assad regime and announces that it will send the refugees back to their homeland should it take power.

Erdogan’s statement was preceded by an appeal by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu last week for reconciliation between the Syrian opposition and Assad. His words sparked massive protests from Syrians living in Turkish-controlled areas of Syria.
