Energy companies are asking for tariff increases
According to Rzeczpospolita, the Energy Regulatory Office received applications for tariff changes for 2023 from several energy suppliers. Among them are Energa Obrót, Tauron Sprzedaż and PGE Obrót. Let us recall that the act limiting the amount of electricity prices guarantees that electricity rates will be frozen in 2023 at the level of 2022. However, it does not prevent energy companies from applying for a tariff increase. Electricity trading companies will be entitled to compensation for losses resulting from price freezing.
Limiting the profits of energy companies instead of the Sasin tax
So far, the scale of the increases requested by energy companies is not known. It is known, however, that the prices of energy purchased by trading companies from its producers in 2023 will be higher than the fixed selling prices for recipients benefiting from the price freeze.
Frozen electricity prices in 2023
Let us recall that the act will increase the protection of households, introduce protection for public utility entities and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises against a drastic increase in electricity bills. This will be achieved by introducing the mechanism of “maximum” electricity price for settlements with customers authorized by energy sellers, not higher than: 693 PLN / MWh for households and 785 PLN / MWh for other eligible customers.

New tariffs and compensations for electricity trading companies
The new regulations introduce limits for individual social groups regarding electricity consumption. Bills that are within the limit will not increase. There are three different limits. There is an annual limit of energy consumption for households 2 MWh per year. Limits for people with disabilities are increased to 2.6 MWh per year. For households with a Large Family Card and farmers, the limit is up to 3 MWh.
Reduced VAT on electricity in 2023 There is no decision to extend the reduction
On the other hand, electricity trading companies, i.e. eligible entities will be entitled to compensation. The funds for their payment will come from the Price Difference Payment Fund, which will receive write-offs on excess revenues obtained by … energy companies. Compensation is to be paid monthly and to provide them with financial liquidity.
