Eminem is honest about drug addiction. The star can talk about a miracle

In the essay Eminem remembers that when he first moved to Los Angeles, he and friends traveled to Tijuana to buy drugs “like Vicodin.” They returned from there with “pants stuffed with pills.” And they were lucky, because Eminem described a situation where the man they were standing behind at the border crossing was knocked to the ground by customs agents and searched. He also smuggled drugs that should only be obtained with a prescription.

The rapper then treated psychoactive drugs as an element of fun. “I experimented. You were on the road thenand people were just giving you free drugs. I managed to live like that for a while, and then it just… happened “- he writes in the essay.

His drug problems became apparent between the release of his third album “The Marshall Mathers LP” (2000) and “Encore” (2004). The artist recalled an event from that period. At that time, he appeared with 50 Cent and G-Unit in the television program “106 & Park” broadcast by the American cable TV Black Entertainment Television. After the concert, he was supposed to give an interview. “One of the hosts was talking to me, and I couldn’t understand a single word he was saying,” he recalls.

Eminem explained that the “hardest” period of his life was about five years. He used the most drugs in 2006, after the death of his friend and colleague, rapper Proof. Eminem admitted that he had used 10 drug dealers concurrently at the time, and consumed up to 80 Valium tablets each night.

In fact, the rapper can talk about a miracle. When in December 2007, after overdosing on methadone, he passed out in the bathroom and was hospitalized, doctors said he had swallowed the equivalent of four bags of heroin. It was only then that he underwent therapy and started recovering from addiction. He recorded his sixth solo studio album “Relapse”, which was released on May 19, 2009, sober, although – as he admitted in a recent interview for manager Paul Rosenberg’s podcast – it took a long time for his brain to “start working again”. He also added that he felt as if he was learning to rap all over again.

Eminem has been sober since April 20, 2008. He recently received a Creative Arts Emmy for his performance at the Super Bowl. In addition to her, she has won 15 Grammy and Oscar music awards (for the song “Lose Yourself” from the movie “8 Mile”).
