Electricity price increases in 2023. Some E.ON Polska customers will pay more
In December, some households among the company’s clients AEON Poland received information that they are not in the group of recipients entitled to use legally frozen in 2023 energy prices at the level of household tariffs. It concerns consumers with whom it was registered at the address specified in the contract with the electricity seller economic activity.
As E.ON Polska informed PAP, such a procedure results from the interpretation of the Act on the Protection of Electricity Consumers in 2023. It lists authorized consumers, including households using energy for their own needs. The company noted that in tariff group G, in addition to authorized recipients, there are also e.g. enterprises, NGOs or other entities using energy for purposes other than those specified in the Act.
E.ON Polska is not able to qualify customers other than those indicated in the Act for the price freeze, the electricity seller emphasized. The interpretation results directly from the wording of the act and is consistent with market practice, the company noted.
This means that customers of E.ON Polska from households in the G tariff group, who have a registered business activity at the address covered by the energy sales contract, from 1 January are to pay the maximum rate allowed by law for small and medium-sized enterprises — PLN 785 per MWh net.
The company informed that if someone does not currently have a registered business at the address in the energy supply contract, they should submit a relevant statement at the E.ON showroom and annex the contract. Then – up to the statutory limits – it will take advantage of the frozen energy prices from 2022.

Other large electricity suppliers apply a different interpretation of the act. PGE Rotation, Tauron Sale and Enea informed PAP that if the contract with the recipient mentions the G tariff group, they generally consider such a recipient as eligible, and from January 1, 2023 – regardless of whether he has a registered business activity in the premises or not – he is covered by full protection for households.

Pursuant to the law, in 2023 recipients entitled, e.g. in households, up to the statutory consumption limit of 2, 2.6 and 3 MWh, they are to pay the same as in 2022. If they use one of the five suppliers with tariffs approved by the President of the Energy Regulatory Office, the price up to the limits will be frozen at the level of the tariff from 2022, i.e. PLN 400 per MWh net, and above the limit it may not be higher than PLN 693 per MWh net. If the retailer does not have an approved tariff, it must use the average price from other approved tariffs up to the consumption limits and the statutory maximum price above.
E.ON applied to the President of the Energy Regulatory Office to approve the tariff for the sale of energy to group G consumers in 2023, but the regulator has not yet made a decision.
Electricity prices. Household and business at one address
As the Ministry of Climate and Environment told PAP, we often deal with situations when the recipient uses electricity for household purposes, because he lives there, and at the same time business activity is carried out in the premises. Then – it was indicated – the recipient, in principle should apply for sub-metering and separate energy consumption for residential and commercial purposes.
The resort explained that in such a case part of the energy used for household needs will be covered by the so-called freezing the accountand the part used for the purposes of the conducted activity will be subject to statutory protection at a maximum price of PLN 785 per MWh net, provided that an appropriate statement is submitted to the energy seller.
