“The risk of Russia using tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine is very high. If this happened, large concentrations of troops near the front lines, as well as important command points and critical infrastructure facilities, could be attacked” – said the representative of the Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) Wadym Skibicki.
In order to stop such an attack, we need not only anti-aircraft systems, but also anti-missile systems – Skibicki assessed in an interview with the British daily “Guardian”. His statement was quoted on the HUR website.
If Putin uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine, it will mean the end of Russia; nobody in the world, including China, would like to have anything to do with the Kremlin then – said Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (RBNiO) in an interview with independent Russian television Nastoyashcheye Vreemia on Wednesday.
In his opinion, Russia “will certainly not use strategic nuclear weapons”, while the use of tactical cargoes against Ukraine would entail a high risk for Moscow. Russia would become an enclave isolated from the civilized world Danilov warned.
As he added, the Kremlin continues its efforts to involve Belarus in the war against Ukraine. We know that Putin is pressing Lukashenka every day to start aggression from Belarus. We are aware of all this. Even the last meeting (of both leaders) in Sochi was on this topic. However, I do not think that Lukashenka will decide to do so – said the head of the RCNiO.
According to Danilov, the mobilization in Russia for a war with a neighboring country will not affect the further course of the conflict. Nothing will change because it cannot change. The key is that we are at home and we defend our homeland. Half an hour after we announce that we need additional troops to defend the country, there will be lines in front of the military commands – the interlocutor of independent Russian media announced.
The number of enemy soldiers going into (Ukrainian) slavery will only increase – emphasized Danilov.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby warned on September 21 that if Russia uses nuclear weapons against Ukraine, it will face severe consequences. He thus referred to the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who declared that he would use “all necessary means to defend” Russia in case of a threat to the country, and assured him that he was “not bluffing”.
White House national security advisor Jake Sullivan said on Sunday that President Joe Biden’s administration was taking Putin’s threats “deadly seriously.”
