Using a pensioner’s ID card gives seniors the opportunity to take advantage of a number of reliefs and exemptions in fees for various services and products. This applies to e.g. medicines, but also the use of state transport. Until now, however, such an identity card had to be used only in the form of a plastic card (such as an ID card or a driving license). However, this will change from January 1, 2023. At that time, the electronic equivalent of this ID card will be available in the mObywatel application.

The electronic ID card for seniors, i.e. mLegitymacja, primarily introduces the possibility of using the document using electronic devices, and more specifically smartphones. Importantly, this is a change that is not mandatory – if a pensioner feels better with a plastic card, he can still use it. It does not lose its validity. It allows you to take advantage of a number of promotions and fee reductions. which ones?

Seniors will primarily be able to take advantage of discounts for public transport. Here, however, there is no single percentage rate for the whole country, because each commune sets its own. However, the appearance of these discounts is mandatory throughout Poland.

Retirees and pensioners have easier access to various rehabilitation centers and health resorts. They can use these services at a reduced price, because the pensioner’s ID card entitles them to exemption from some fees.

If a doctor prescribes medicines for an amount exceeding PLN 100, seniors will be able to take advantage of the tax deduction option. What’s more, pharmacies will offer additional discounts to seniors with ID cards.

In the case of pensioners over 60, the exemption will apply when earnings do not exceed half of the average salary for the previous year. On the other hand, pensioners after the age of 75 do not have to pay an RTV subscription, regardless of their income.

In the case of railway carriers, pensioners can take advantage of a special 37% discount per year, which applies to two journeys in the 2nd class. For older people, however, it is possible to obtain a special Senior Card at PKP, which guarantees a 50% discount on travel on InterCity, TLK and express trains – regardless of the selected class! And what about regional transport? Here, discounts apply to 30% for single purchases and a 15% discount for subscription tickets.
