De Vries confirms the talks. Williams (however) ready for an experiment? – dobryroberta.pl

Until recently, Nyck de Vries could count on a place in the worst team for the 2023 season, and she had all the cards in her hand. Now Williams has to look for a fallback option after they missed an opportunity. Also through combinations with Alpine.

Nyck confirms

There have recently been reports of a meeting Nyck de Vries was about to have with Helmut Marko. AlphaTauri will be interested in his employment, in which he would replace Pierre Gasly. Thanks to this, the French could be released from the contract and go to Alpine.

“As the media reported yesterday, I was in Austria to meet Helmut Marko. These are the facts, ”says the Dutchman.

When asked if he now has the comfort of choosing a place for next year, he says it is not so rosy.

“I don’t know if I’m in such a luxurious position that I can choose. Most of it is all beyond my control. I’ve been in discussions with Williams for a long time, in which I made my Monza debut, ”says de Vries in an interview with Humberto op Zaterdag.

“Wherever I get a racing seat, I’ll be happy with it. We must wait now and see how the situation develops in the coming days and weeks. Like I said, I have no control over everything. It’s strange that not everything depends on my form and results, but that’s the situation today. However, I do not have a guaranteed place, ”adds Nyck.

At the same time, it confirms its participation in the Alpine test at Hungaroring, for which it will be successful today.

“I’ve been talking to Alpine since July and will be testing with them this week,” he says. In addition to him, Mick Doohan, Antonio Giovinazzi and Colton Herta will also participate in the test.

Williams missed?

Two months ago, Toto Wolff said he could not secure Nyck de Vries a place in Formula 1, even in Williams. Before the summer break, the Grove team had talked with Alpine about lending Oscar Piastri for 2 seasons.

Everything was already agreed with the French team and Williams was getting ready for Alex Albon – Oscar Piastri. Everything was agreed, except for Alpine’s contract with Piastri. As the deal broke down, Williams had a short window to take de Vries, but it looks like the team wanted to play unavailable and outbid.

Now de Vries, after his great result at Monza, has at least one other team interested in it, and every offer seems to be better than Williams, who occupy the last place in the table.

Williams therefore has to look for a contingency plan. Two months ago, Jost Capito said that the rumors about the employment of Logan Sargeant – a junior team playing in Formula 2 – are not true and the American entry would be premature. Now, however, the head of the team changes the narrative.

“There is still a large selection of young drivers, and there are also experienced drivers on the market. It all depends on the strategy. We are in a situation where we can choose different strategies. We are not ahead of the game and we don’t need two experienced players. So we can experiment and hire a young driver. We’ll see what turns out to be best, ”says Jost Capito, quoted by f1i.com.

One of these strategies may be Logan Sargeant. The problem with the American is that he doesn’t have the required points for a super license yet. He is 3rd in the general classification of Formula 2 and he needs to be at least 5th in order to get a super license. As many as 6 players can overtake him.

“I think it’s ready. Sure, he still needs points, and if he doesn’t get them, we can’t help it. But I’m sure he’s ready – whether he scores or not. ” Capito says.

The upside of Sargeant is that he would be the first American in a long time, and F1 is experiencing a real renaissance in this country.

“If we take it, it’s not why. This is not our priority – we prioritize talent and skills over nationality, explains Williams’ boss.
