British media: Harry and Meghan declare war on the royal family

The 60-second clip showcased a series of photos of Harry and Meghan, including many hitherto unpublished, where they are depicted as a happy, loving couple – from the wedding, from their home, with a safari, with dogs – as well as several shots where Meghan wipes tears. Between them, a photo from the service at Westminster Abbey in 2019 was interwoven, which also features Meghan, but in the foreground is Princess Kate, wife of Prince William, captured when she had a very cold and even unpleasant expression on her face.

During the clip Harry and Meghan answer the question why they wanted to make this document. “No one sees what goes on behind closed doors. I had to do everything I could to protect my family,” Harry replies. “When the stakes are so high, wouldn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?” Meghan says.

The British media have no doubt that the document will be another challenge posed by Harry and Meghan to the rest of the royal family, especially Harry’s older brother Prince William and his wife Princess Kate. They emphasize that it is certainly no coincidence that the announcement was issued just after William and Kate came to visit the US, because it will effectively overshadow this trip.

And in addition, although it was probably not planned, it was broadcast the day after the scandal broke out that the 83-year-old Lady Susan Hussey, one of the ladies-in-waiting and William’s godmother, asked quite insistently at a banquet at Buckingham Palace a London-born black head of one of the charities where she really comes from. Tuesday’s incident has reignited allegations of alleged “institutional racism” within the royal family, something Harry and Meghan have suggested in the past.

The Daily Mail writes that supporters of William and Kate perceive the announcement of the Netflix documentary as a “declaration of war”, “The Sun” – calls it sabotage, “The Times” expects the royal couple will not spare blows and calls them “Kardashians” The Daily Express asks, “Harry, do you really hate your family that much?” and the Daily Star comments that “The shrugged couple shares their most intimate secrets with 8 billion people.”

When Harry and Meghan announced in early 2020 that they were going to step down as members of the royal family, they explained that they wanted to lead a life away from the media following them at every turn.
