Even before Christmas, PZPN started looking for a new coach of the Polish national team. On December 22, the association issued an official statement stating that Czesław Michniewicz’s contract would not be extended, and thus the cooperation with the 52-year-old coach would end on December 31, 2022.

President’s decision Cezary Kulesza caused a heated discussion in the media about the names of potential candidates for the position of the head coach of the Polish national team. Among the favorites are: Vladimir Petkovic, Nenad Bjelica and Paulo Bento. Now, Zbigniew Boniek, the former president of the Polish Football Association, decided to speak on this matter. His Twitter entry may suggest that he would like Michniewicz to be replaced by a trainer from Poland.
Boniek sharply about foreign coaches
In his argument, Boniek referred to the attitude of former foreign coaches of our team. It’s easy to see that the 66-year-old doesn’t have very fond memories of these coaches. “We all know how foreign coaches ended up with the team. One in the end couldn’t win against anyone, he overtook only San Marino, he ignored everything and everyone and advised the foreign club without consent,” he wrote Zbigniew Boniek.
The trainer that the former president of the Polish Football Association is referring to in this case is Leo Beenhakker, who led the Polish team in 2006-2009. The Polish national team led by the Dutchman managed to advance to the European Championship for the first time in history. This took place in 2008, when 16 teams had the right to play at such an event, not 24 as it is now.
“The second one after the change of authorities just ran away,” added the UEFA vice-president. It’s about, of course Paulo Sousawho was hired by Boniek in 2021. Internet users immediately reminded him of this fact. “The question is, if a foreign coach is such a bad choice, because ‘fuck everything and everyone’, why hire Sousa?” one of them wrote. “Somebody hired that other lunatic,” added another.
“Maybe so, Paulo was a top coach – unfortunately, you don’t see some things in engagement, only after marriage” – Boniek answered them.
“Boniek, Żmuda, Lato, Młynarczyk, Smolarek listened to Machciński and young Piechniczek. Polish football did not work out badly. It is worth thinking a bit,” concluded the former president of PZPN.
