Big layoffs at the MAN bus factory. 860 people will lose their jobs

“In the short and medium term, we cannot expect a significant improvement in the market and sales situation, and hence the development of the bus business. For these reasons, it is necessary to urgently adjust the structure of this business area” – reads the company’s press release.

The company explains that “sales in this area [autobusów] fell from around 7.4 thousand. units in 2019 to about 4.6 thousand. units in 2021. In the first nine months of 2022, about 2.8 thousand were sold. buses “.

What does this mean in practice? The fact that hundreds of people employed in the MAN bus plants in Starachowice will lose their jobs. It is about 860 people. Currently, around 3,000 of them are employed in the factory. Accordingly, the scale of production is also to decrease. Instead of 12 buses a day, eight vehicles are to be produced.

“We have informed the staff at the plant about this,” said Michael Kobresja, board member, and we are now going to consult with the trade unions.

“I do not know if in Poland we have recently witnessed layoffs of a larger scale in numbers. This is terrible news” – said Jan Seweryn, who is the head of “Solidarity” at MAN plants, in an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza.

As he claims, there were also layoffs in previous years, but never so great. Therefore, trade unions intend to try to obtain the best possible conditions for the dismissed people.
