An elite Ukrainian unit is to be behind the attacks on Putin’s “holy place” – Crimea. The recent eruptions on the peninsula made Russian tourists flee in panic.
In recent days, there have been a series of explosions in the Crimean Peninsula annexed by the Russians in 2014: in the ammunition warehouse and transformer substation near the city of Jankoye and at the military airport near Simferopol. The airbase in Novofedorivka was used for air raids on Ukraine.
The Ukrainian authorities informed after the explosions that the events resulted from the actions of the country’s armed forces. On the other hand, Moscow said that the explosions were the result of sabotage actions.
Meanwhile, the New York Times reported the opinion of a high-ranking Ukrainian official who, asking for anonymity, said that an elite Ukrainian unit has a connection with the explosions. The American daily Washington Post also wrote about the Ukrainian special forces.
On the other hand, the BBC assessed that it was active in the territory of Crimea an organized group that is able to either construct drones that can attack a warehouse (weapons) or receive (drones) from the outside.
Andriy Yermak, head of the office of the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, referred to the Tuesday events. He wrote on Telegram about “an operation carried out with jewelry precision by the Armed Forces of Ukraine”. “It will continue until the Ukrainian territories are completely liberated,” he added, “Crimea is Ukrainian!”
Interestingly, Moscow has so far presented Crimea as a protected fortress.
The New York Times recalls that Vladimir Putin previously spoke of Crimea as a “holy place” and “holy land of Russia”.
He said about the annexation that it was “historical justice”.
Since taking control of Crimea in 2014, Russia has militarized the peninsula and is using it to conduct operations against Ukraine.
