A4 motorway from Katowice to Krakow for free? The minister gives hope
In 2027, the concession for the section of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow expires; We would like this section to be free for drivers – said the Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk. He added that the plan assumes the expansion of this route with an additional lane.
The head of the infrastructure ministry, who was a guest of Polsat News on Thursday, when asked if the government wanted to introduce additional fees on existing motorways, assured that there were no such plans.
There are no such plans on these existing motorways. Let me remind you that the fees are handled by the Minister of Finance. Often, the toll waiver allows a large proportion of traffic to be transferred to a motorway section from parallel roads Adamczyk said.
He added that hopes that the tolls will be abolished on the section of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. He reminded that the concession for the use of this motorway ends in 2027.
I am convinced (…) that this motorway will again become a motorway managed by GDDKiA i we would like this section between Katowice and Kraków to be a free motorway section – He said.
The head of the Ministry of Infrastructure added that it is planned to expand this route with an additional traffic lane in each direction. This would allow traffic to accumulate, collect it from parallel roads (to A4 – ed.), where there are huge traffic problems he pointed out.
The motorway concessionaire is Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska (SAM). In July this year the rates for using the Katowice-Kraków section were raised from PLN 24 to PLN 26 for passenger cars. For trucks, prices increased from PLN 70 to PLN 80. GDDKiA did not agree with the concessionaire’s decision.
